Love God-St Augustine

Do you ever get concerned that you might not be doing the right thing? I know I do. When I am in this mode it is like doing a constant system check. I check in with God-is this your will? I check in with myself-does this feel right according to what I know? I check in with my husband-does this seem like I am doing the right thing? And then I circle back around. It actually can get pretty exhausting and complicated. It sounds like a good idea to keep a constant check on things, but what I have discovered is that it is really a symptom of a lack of faith. This is not how God designed things to be. Our relationship with God and the ways of God aren’t supposed to be complicated and burdensome. It is supposed to flow and be easy. Look at matthew 11:28-30

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

So if I come to God, I am supposed to find rest not complications. So why does doing the right thing seem to get so crazy hard sometimes? The answer to that is…ME! I make things complicated. I send myself through a gauntlet of questions and second guessing. Why do I do this? The truth is because I don’t know God well enough. (This is not an easy thing to admit) If I knew God well enough I would stop the cycle of questions and second guessing.

I would, [pullquote position="right"]just love God and do what I like![/pullquote]

If I get the part about loving God right, everything else flows. This is being “in the zone” spiritually and it is where I want to be. I have written previously about how there are only a few “non-negotiables’ in the Christian life. (You can find that post here)

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and soul, and might…Deuteronomy 6:5

Deuteronomy 6:5 gives us the non-negotiables. Nothing is right if we aren’t doing these things. But if we are loving God this way, we will be in the zone!

So the bottom line is…JUST LOVE GOD!

Much Grace
